ROCK

GROUT MIX

Rock Strength

· Point Load
- It is intended as an index test for the strength classification of rock materials. It may also be used to
estimate other strength parameters with which it is correlated.

· Uniaxial Compression
- Carried out on intact rock samples and yields data on the rock material properties. This is the most
common test carried out on rock to determine the unconfined compressive strength characteristic.

· Indirect Tensile Strength (Brazilian Split Test)
- This test measures  the uniaxial tensile strength of rock specimens indirectly by the Brazil test.

Rock Deformation & Permeability

· Rock deformation test
- Elastic modulus E, and poisson ratio v, can be determined together with strength test on uniaxial compression test with the additional of strain sensors mounted on the specimen itself The elastic constants are used to calculate the stress and deformation in rock structures. For an isotropic material the relation between shear and bulk moduli and Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio can also be calculated using the relationship mentioned in ASTM D7012-10.

· Permeability by Triaxial Cell
- Make use of the modified triaxial cell to determine the permeability characteristic of rock.

Grout Test

· Uniaxial Compressive Strength with elastic modulus
- This method of test is intended to determine stress-strain curve and elastic modulus in uniaxial
compression of a grout casted in a cylindrical form. This is also a common test to determine the
quality of grout casted into the soil.

· Thermal Conductivity
- This is a useful test for Geothermal applications such as checking the thermal conductivity of the
grouting material within the bore annuals, ground loop design for heat exchanger, cable installation, etc.

· Permeability
- This property is required in bentonite-cement mix for applications such as borehole filled for instrument
  installation, cut-off wall design etc.

Non-Destructive Tests

· Rebound Hammer

· UPV

· Rebar locator/ Concrete Cover

· Half-cell potential

· Carbonation Test

· Thermography

· CCTV Inspection

Laboratory Rock Tests complement expensive field tests for rock mass which are usually cater for big projects only. Rock discountinuities and regions of weak rock are usually the critical elements in a rock mass and their strength and deformabilities are often useful paramenters to obtain in laboratory tests.

Rock Classification

· Petrographical analysis
- Useful to identify rock type and degree of weathering and gives an indication of stress history.

· Saturation, Moisture Content, Density  and Porosity
- These parameters are related to other useful parameters such as compressive strength, modulus of
elasticity, seismic wave velocity, resistance to weathering and degree of weathering.

· Slake Durability
- This test is intended to assess the resistance offered by a rock sample to weakening and disintegration when subjected to wetting and drying. Useful quality index for testing weak rocks proposed for construction.

· Carbonate Test
- Useful for identification chalk and calcareous mud rocks.

· Abrasiveness
- Cerchar Rock Abrasiveness test or Cerchar Abrasivity Index (CAI) test has gained increasing popularity as a mean to assess the abrasivity of rock. This is partly due to  it fast and effectiveness method of measuring and comparing the abrasivity of different rock samples. The test has found common use in mining and tunnelling industries to estimate wear rate and cost of equipment replacement. Indeed the Cerchar test is now considered by some as one of the “standard parameter” for hard rock testing.

· Hardness
- Gives some indication of potential wear and tear of machinery involved in rock cutting and breaking.

· Swelling
- Measures the pressure necessary to constrain an undisturbed rock specimen at constant volume when
it is immersed in water. This is a good indication of moisture sensitivity and possible ranges of induced
pressures on tunnel linings of rock.

Our laboratory carry out tests for grout mixes such as  Jet-Grout Pile, Deep Cement Mix, Cement or Bentonite  Grouts. These tests provide information on the parameters required for design and quality control purposes.
